Artist Statement
This painting is basen on Rumi’s poem - Like This.
My paintings are gestural and semi-abstract, featuring figures inspired by Indian mythology. My approach is intuitive and impulsive, with the artwork evolving through my processes rather than representing pre-determined images or narratives. I work through layers of colour and mark-making, creating a narrative that emerges through the negotiation between drawn images and subtraction. Integrating abstract colours and drawn images are always at the forefront of my mind as I work.
About The Artist
Panchali Sheth is an artist based in Willoughby, NSW. She holds an MFA from the University of NSW (COFA). She has been recognized for participating in various art prizes, including being a finalist in the Hornsby Art Prize, GreenWay Art Prize, and Federation Art Prize. She has also had several sell-out exhibitions and has taken part in artist residencies in France and the United States.
Panchali's paintings are characterized by their gestural and semi-abstract style, with figures inspired by Indian mythology. Her process is intuitive and impulsive, with the final work evolving through the repeated layering of colours and marks. The integration of abstract colours and drawn images are central to her work, creating a narrative that emerges through the negotiation between the two.
