Artist Statement
I love the reflected light on water when it is like molten silver. There is a sense of tranquillity and peace at this special time of the day. This painting is my representation of this magical hour.
I am an established artist, having studied at the SA School of Art many years ago in both fine art and as an art teacher, then pursuing both careers simultaneously. I have always loved contemporary art, and as a painter, illustrator, and designer my artwork reflects this. I enjoy pushing my limits by using my instinct and experimenting with mixtures of media and technique. Most of my work starts with a concept in mind, but then evolves during the creative process to a final outcome that often surprises me. The hardest part during this process is to sacrifice some elements that I love, but need to let go for the sake of the whole. Although my subjects vary, the consistency in my work is always my exploration of light, space, colour, texture, and mark-making. I often think that the marks I allow to come freely and instinctively into my work are like some hidden code that creates an underlying narrative to the finished piece.
Bev Puckridge
Bev Puckridge is a South Australian artist based in Port Adelaide. She lives on a dock that overlooks the Port River (which is really an estuary) and literally has dolphins, seabirds, blue swimmer crabs, and jellyfish visiting her front yard (aka the river) on a regular basis.
Besides pursuing her career as an artist, Bev loves to hang out with her rescue dog, Anna, who is a constant companion in the studio. Reading, listening to music, and nurturing a potted terrace garden are other ways Bev leads a balanced life.
