Tony Wild

Tony Wild works out of a converted garage studio in the Sydney suburb of Eastlakes. His art practice was inspired by a corrupted image on a mobile phone nearly 15 years ago. That image led Tony to the UNSW College of Fine Arts where he learned the fundamental skills needed to express his ideas through the medium of paint.

Tony’s unstructured and informal abstraction draws inspiration from artists such as Gerhard Richter, Claude Monet, Brett Whiteley, and Piet Mondrian. His current work is exploring the interplay between texture and tone. According to Tony, “My work is pure experimentation—it doesn’t have any specific intention. I’m not trying to make the viewer think about something or shock them in any way. Nor am I using it as a way to explore some obscure concept. It’s a painting. My hope is that they feel something when they look at it. What they feel—or whether they feel anything—is out of my control.”
