Artist Statement
My towering assemblages are created from hand-built ceramic pieces and/or found objects. The ordering, curation and stacking are my primary focus. Making each piece is reminiscent of a childhood game, or perhaps an act of rebellion on my part, or a means of reframing childhood memories. I feel I am imbuing the objects with new life, giving them a new story. My work is an exploration of childhood, memory, play, escape, resilience, fragility, and rebellion.
Kristy Hussey
Kristy Hussey is a multi-disciplinary assemblage artist undertaking post-graduate study in visual arts at the Victorian College of the Arts. She has exhibited in Paris, Milan, Sydney and Melbourne. She has been a finalist in the National Emerging Art Prize 2021 and the Wyndham Art Prize 2023.
Kristy’s work is primarily sculptural using everyday domestic objects. The chosen objects are bearers of potent memories and become conduits for storytelling — their narratives thoughtfully reframed through order and assemblage. Her work conveys the themes of escape, resilience, fragility, and rebellion.
Kristy’s love of experimentation, combined with an innate desire to break rules and push boundaries drives her practice.
