Learn How to Create a ‘Salon-Style’ Hang

White walls can be a daunting prospect when it comes to selecting and hanging artworks. One way to embrace it is with stand-alone striking pieces you love.
The ‘Salon-Style’ Hang
Another approach is to select a combination of pieces that work together in what is referred to as a Salon-Style Hang or Gallery Wall. These may be anything you choose from various artists or eras, of different styles or a collection of harmonious colours or even a collection intentionally from one of your favourite artists, like the examples shown further below demonstrating various compositions with a selection of artworks by one of our new artists Lily Platts

Why Use A Salon-Style Hang
The Salon-Style hang originated in salons in the 19th century in Europe where artworks of all shapes and sizes were crowded and squeezed into a space together for showings. It can be structured and planned as above all at once for those who just “need it now” or built along the way as part of your art journey and hung as you discover new pieces in an intentionally unstructured boho manner. Or simply fill the walls as Interior Designer Francis Sultana has who unabashedly combines form, colour and many large artworks in spaces.

A salon style can convert a room from hospital like starkness to one of warmth, interest and ambience. Curation and placement is often as important as the artwork itself and something we specialize in. Let’s face it, our homes and work spaces are special places and deserve to be beautiful and transporting. Committing to making them wonderful for yourself and others has never been more important.
Start With A Theme
There are various approaches you can take as a starting point for your home or workspace.
Starting with an overall theme as a reference can make it easier and not so daunting. Having a source of inspiration much like writing a poem or a piece of music, possibly using similarities or conscious clash and discord. For example you could create a wall with a single colour as the key concept, of all cobalt blue, or various shades of pink, hot pink through to soft of varying shades or all black and white. All seaside pics or various styles in Autumn tones or soft pastels or a conscious eclectic contrasting mix , the list goes on...
