Collection: SHIBUI

Exhibition Open 8 - 23 November, 2025

SHIBUI is a Japanese aesthetic meaning simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty. It values quiet elegance, naturalness, and depth over flashiness. Objects or experiences described as shibui reveal their richness gradually, balancing simplicity with complexity and imperfection, often reflecting harmony, restraint, and the beauty of age or understatement.

Tee McManus and Anna Curnuck. Two makers, one conversation—restrained, considered, deeply felt.

Tee's fluted vessels shift as you move around them, channels carved to catch glaze as it falls and pools. Her forms hold Japanese minimalism in their bones—not as reference, but as practice—imperfection is celebrated.

Anna works in gesture and mark, abstractions that reveal themselves gradually, where a single line or wash of colour inspires imagination. For SHIBUI, Anna has drawn on Tee's ceramics. Glaze runs, organic forms, the weight of simplicity—these inform her new works across media.

Together at SIBU Gallery, vessel and canvas. Surface and depth. Beauty that accumulates. An elegance that deepens over time.
