Artist Statement
My work explores transformation, memory, and the marks life leaves on us—both seen and unseen. Using fabric as a canvas, I work with diluted pigments, natural dyes, and layered textures to capture moments of surrender, resilience, and change. The ocean often serves as a central motif, reflecting the ebb and flow of personal evolution—its tides mirroring the rhythms of growth, identity, and the need to surrender. I am drawn to materials that absorb and hold traces of experience, working with silks, linens, and hand-mixed dyes sourced from domestic elements like coffee, tea, and vegetable skins. This process bridges my artistic and everyday life, embracing imperfection and fluidity. Just as waves imprint patterns in the sand, my works seek to embody the quiet imprints of time and transformation. At its core, my practice is a meditation on change—on pressing in, letting go, and allowing life’s unpredictable currents to shape something beautiful.

About the artist
Anna-May Moir
Anna-May Moir is an emerging Australian artist, mother, and teacher based on the Central Coast of NSW, where she was born and raised. With a degree in communications and secondary teaching, she is a self-taught painter who has spent nearly a decade as a creative arts educator while balancing her own creative practice and raising her young family.
Since sharing her work publicly in 2020, Anna-May’s artistic practice has evolved organically, shifting from a focus on still life to more abstract and expressionistic forms. She draws inspiration from the physical and psychological landscapes that have shaped her journey, spirituality, and identity. Blending traditional and unconventional materials, she creates rich, textural layers, often working with soft, muted palettes and delicate fabrics that evoke a sense of introspection, memory, and personal growth.
She is particularly drawn to the visual articulation of motherhood and the evolution of a woman as she becomes a mother. Anna-May has exhibited her work in numerous group shows and was commissioned to create a body of work for the North Gosford Private Maternity Ward in 2020.
