About the artist
Saint Chalom
Saint Chalom, formerly known as Chalom, is an Australian-based artist whose practice centres on the intersection of authentic spirituality and creative expression. His name, bridging Christian and Hebrew traditions, reflects his belief that spirituality transcends denominational boundaries and recognises the divine spark within all people when they are being true to themselves.
Working primarily with found and recovered materials, Saint Chalom creates deeply meditative artworks that layer written blessings, prophecies, and personal reflections beneath gestural marks made with oil sticks, spray paint, and carpenter's pencils. His process deliberately eschews traditional brushes in favour of hands-on application, creating a more direct and authentic connection to the work.
Central to his practice is the concept of hidden spiritual foundations—blessings and prophecies embedded in under-paintings that viewers may sense energetically even when not visually apparent. These layered elements are intended to shift the atmospheric quality of spaces where the works are displayed, creating environments that support contemplation and spiritual openness.
Saint Chalom's artistic evolution reflects his understanding that art serves as a search for meaning, truth, and transformation. His process emerges from visions, meditations, and deep introspection, with each piece representing different aspects of the spiritual journey—seeking, questioning, discovering, and surrendering. The imperfections and layers in his work mirror the complexity of spiritual growth, where every experience contributes to wholeness.
His works, with titles such as "Transfigure," "Beyond the Veil," and "Encounter," suggest movement and transformation, inviting viewers to connect with their own spiritual experiences and recognise the living, breathing nature of authentic spirituality.
